Joan Laporta, President of Barcelona, said that there was an “overwhelming feeling of sadness” in the club after the death of the club doctor Carles Minarro Garcia in construction to the planned La Liga Clash on Saturday with Osasuna.
The game was shortly before the two teams were brought to the field, and a new date on which the Scheduling Committee of La Liga was confirmed in due course.
Condolute messages were passed on by Barcelona’s rival Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid on social media and by a number of other clubs, and Laporta confirmed in a brief explanation that Garcia’s death suddenly affected the club’s players.
“He was a man who was loved by everyone who died in the Hotel Team this afternoon,” said Laporta. “There was an overwhelming feeling of sadness because he was loved. He traveled to every game to take care of the players to take care of the coaching team. He never said to anyone. He was a great professional and a great doctor.
“It destroyed us on the ground and left us in a sense of the shock because it was so suddenly. We contacted his mother and wife to express our condolences and support them. Carles leaves two children Gerard and Anna.
“The players were badly affected and out of respect for Carles Minarro and his family we had to apply for the shift in the game.”
Midfielder Pedri, who was often exposed to spells on the edge with injuries, put it on Instagram: “I still can’t believe it. A great hug for Carles’ family and friends.”
With Barcelona no longer in action, Atletico Madrid has the opportunity to move on La Liga if you travel to Getafe in the early game on Sunday. Real Madrid can move to points with Barca if you successfully overcome Rayo Vallecano in Santiago Bernabeu.
