Virgil van Dijk offers blunt update on Liverpool future after Champions League exit

Virgil van Dijk insisted that anyone who claims to know how to end up discussions about their future in Liverpool will “lie” because they have no idea whether they will stay in Anfield this summer.

The Dutch captain is in the last months of his contract and there was considerable speculation that despite the interest of a number of Europe’s largest pages, he will ultimately include a pen to extend the contract.

This whispering of optimism for Liverpool fans was wiped out on Tuesday after the Champions League was eliminated when van Dijk argued that he was still unsuspecting about where he would play his football next season.

“I have no idea,” he argued. “I still have no idea at the moment. Really. I have no idea at the moment.

“It’s not on ice. Nothing on ice. There is only … I always say the same thing. Listen, there are ten games, and that’s my full focus. If there is news, you would know. I don’t even know myself. Everyone knows that there are some conversations behind the scenes, but that is against it.

“At the moment I don’t even know what’s going to happen next year. If someone says he knows, lies your face.”
