Poseteclou, Manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has defended his existence so far that he “always wins things” in a club in his second year.
In August, a week before the first game of his second Premier League season at Spurs, Poseteclou insisted on it: “I usually win in my second season. This is the whole idea. In the first year, it is about establishing principles and creating a foundation. Hopefully the second year will win things.”
Poseteclou was reminded of his comments before the season a month later, immediately after a defeat in North London derby against Arsenal. “I usually don’t win any things,” he countered. “I always win things in my second year.”
When Spurs prepared for AZ Alkmaar against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday evening, which represents the club’s last remaining cutlery, Poseteclou was asked again whether he regretted to give such a courageous explanation. “My view has always been that they answer them” when they asked a question, “he flinched.” I did not invent anything. I was asked a question, I answered this question.
“People used it for their own purposes to suggest a brave claim, but I wasn’t. I gave a fact. If that doesn’t happen this year, I can no longer say that if I am asked next year, right?
“What should I say? ‘I always win in the second year, I have in the past wherever I was, but it won’t happen here?’ Do people want to hear that?
“People can twist these things and use them. Maybe we will oppose the chances and I win something. You know what people will say? ‘Isn’t it great that he made such courageous claim?’ People just use it as they want, depending on the circumstances.
“I will always answer things the way I feel like I can answer. I feel very comfortable and proud that I have won things wherever I was. I think it is something where I wouldn’t sit here if I would not do it. Whether I win something here in my second year will say.”
Spurs takes a total of 1-0 after the loss of the first leg in Alkmaar.
