Manchester United has secured her place in the quarter -finals of the Europa League, thanks to what became a blow against Real Sociedad in Old Trafford.
Mikel Oyarzabal threatened to make it another miserable experience for United when he achieved the score early from the penalty point. But Bruno Fernandes struck Ruben Amorim’s team with his own sides of the half.
The Real Sociedad already played the last half hour with ten players when Jon Aramburu was sent, which made her task even more difficult.
Fernandes finally gave an impressive united performance late, with Diogo Dalot even made fourth place in the end.
How the game unfolds
La Real started on the front foot and United experienced the worst start when the Oyarzabal ran from 12 meters for the second European game. The foul on Spain forward of Matthijs de Ligt was initially unpunished in real time, but a long VAR test led to the referee pointed to the spot. Oyarzabal, just like in the first leg, cooled coolly.
But United reacted well and made his own punishment just a few minutes later. Igor Zubeldia was the guilty party, which in Rasmus Hojlund bundled the back of Rasmus Hojlund when the Dane set the goal to follow the Square pass from Fernandes. The United Skipper then got out.
The quick drawing of Level increased the self -confidence of United in the course of half and there was positive work in good areas. After good work by Joshua Zirkzee, Hojlund shot far, although a possible offside could possibly have been excluded if the ball had found the network.
La Real was under serious pressure when the interval was approaching, and Patrick Dorgu also threatened a Paul Scholes-like volley from the edge of the box, which hovered just by. The Danish Wing-Back had another chance at the end of half and shot directly to Alex Remiro with limited performance.
A persistent magic of Uned owned in the real Sociedad box immediately after the restart culminated in Fernandes and his team progressed from the position both during the night and in the tie. Zirkzees’s final shot from Open Play had been well saved by Remiro, but the Alarmdorgu was excited by Aritz Elustondo after trying to make something out of the rebound.
Twice in short succession, Remiro stopped Balls from Dorgu and then Alejandro Garnacho from reaching Hojlund in the six-yard box, while the advantage of United only grew when Aramburu showed a straight card for Dorgu within minutes after getting in. It was considered that the Danish Wing-Back was denied a chance for the goalkeepers after playing by Zirkzee.
Zirkzee had two wonderful chances of bringing things to bed late, and Remiro forced Remiro to be an excellent rescue after playing with a wonderful, disguised Fernandes passport, and then went far after Nussair Mazraoui had to go to his marker to cross from the right.
The referee pointed to the square for a fourth time when Hamani Traore challenged the impressive Dorgu. Traore was incredulous and for his honor the United man was seen how he informed the officials that he was also that it was not a punishment. This decision was ultimately lifted.
But La Real could no longer endure when Fernandes completed his hat trick in the final phase to complete things. Garnacho played the decisive end pass when United was going, and the captain held his serenity to fire himself over Remiro.
The defensive intensity had disappeared when Dalot brought the fourth. Dorgu was again involved, while Hojlund was the Fernando Redondo from the 2000s (if you know, you know) to set up the Portuguese international for a clinical finish from the middle of the box.
Take a look at Manchester United against Real Sociedad’s player reviews here.
Too often, United gives himself additional work. There are now ten of the last 12 games in Old Trafford in which Amorim’s team has fallen back.
It doesn’t have to be as hard as it was.
Fortunately, the Europa League was the break from United this season. They reacted very well to Mikel Oyarzabal’s early punishment after dominating the abbey in Spain in a similar way.
In the last 29 Europa League games in Old Trafford there are 22 wins, six draws and one defeat. The only team that she exceeded in this competition during this time was ironic in 2022 Real Sociedad.
United remains unbeaten in ten European excursions this season and are probably favorites despite domestic fights to win the Europa League. This would look like the Champions League qualification for the next season and an absolute lifeline in Europe about the Premier League placement next season, it looks as if it could be almost impossible.
Amorim landed the United job in November after making a call as one of the smartest coaching heads in Europe at Sporting CP. But what he achieved in Lisbon was done with a very specific tactical system, for which the squad inherited in Manchester was not set up.
Patrick Dorgu was one of only two players who were recruited during the transfer window in January, but as a wing defender it was a clear sign that the squad was shifted towards Amorim’s way of thinking.
Apart from a recently domestic suspension, Dorgu has made a bright start to his united career, and this was another indicator that the 20-year-old would prove to be a clever acquisition. He did everything that should be a good wing back and played a crucial role overall. He deserved the second punishment that his team put in the lead and forced the red card that strengthened United’s control over the draw.
At the beginning of this week, Rasmus Hojlund was among five players, who was called by co -owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in a brutal excavation. Of all – Antony, Andre Onana, Jadon Sancho and Casemiro – probably has the most to lose the most by seeing this.
Amorim said on Wednesday that it was on the players to misrepresent the rat cliffs in his assessments, and Hojlund seemed to be determined to do exactly that from the opening start. His team-mates, who did not always help the 22-year-old when Diogo Dalot decided against a San San Sebastian against a San Sebastian last week, also looked at the fact that he had also impressed. That was clear when colleagues got the point to run too Hojlund when he won the punishment.
Hojlund sat down, took intelligent runs and planted a dangerous partnership with Joshua Zirkzee in particular. He even used the fourth goal for Dalot with an enormous piece of individual skills, while the lack of a goal is not affected for himself.
In view of the election, Amorim decided not to start with Victor Lindelof in the back three. The Swede is on the way to the outcome at the end of the season without a contract and as Free Agent.
The 18-year-old January, who signed Ayden Heaven, represents the next chapter in the history of Manchester United and got the nod instead of the much more experienced player.
The sky had impressed at the weekend to get out of the bank against the former Club Arsenal and replaced the injured Leny Yoro at halftime, and this was his full debut in United since his arrival.
