According to reports, Chelsea has reported a deal to sign the Dario Esgo from Sporting CP on the same day, on which they reduced his compatriot Geovany Quenda.
In contrast to Quenda, which had hardly been associated with the blues and instead was seen as the main goal for Manchester United, Essugo has been on the club’s radar for a while. During the transfer window in January it was almost closed, but it seems that the 20-year-old midfielder will now be on the way to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Esgo’s move to Chelsea was described as a “completed deal” by A bola. The Portuguese outlet claims that the Premier League team pays a fixed fee of € 25 million (€ 21 million GBP) for a player currently borrowed with Las Palmas in La Liga. While Quenda does not follow Chelsea until 2026, Essugo is expected to arrive in West London this summer before the 2025/26 campaign.
The 5,10 defensive midfielder was a regular guest this season for the threatened island outfit and built up on the experience that he did with Chaves last season during his loan magic in the top flight in Portuguese. However, it was not a campaign without fighting. Esgo was shown two red cards in this calendar year alone when he collected nine bookings throughout the campaign.
Despite this poor disciplinary record, the combative properties that ESGO – when it is on the field – have won many admirers. Real Madrid and Barcelona were both associated with the 20-year-old, whose an average of 4.8 duels and interceptions per 90 are the best return of every midfield in La League this season.
Just like at Quenda, Chelsea seemed to have won the signature of this highly rated Youngster.
