Rasmus Hojlund has admitted that his own shape was just not good enough for Manchester United this season after completing a run of 21 games without a goal.
Hojlund found the back of the network in the 3-0 win on Sunday against Leicester City after reaching a run of over 22 hours without a hit to finally achieve his third Premier League goal of the campaign.
While many have been drawn to defend Hojlund by arguing that the boy and raw dane has not received adequate support from the people in his surroundings – a point that undoubtedly has a certain value – Hojlund himself granted that he liked the requirements of the leading striker from United.
“I think it also depends on my achievements,” he said. “I think obviously I wasn’t up to date as I wanted it, and we still fit a new system and some new positions.
“But I think I’ve grown on it lately and have a little better. But I’m just glad to come to the goals ships and I am sure that they will come more now. I’m happy, but it’s not just about goals. I am obviously very happy to achieve my goal and I have a lot of self -confidence.
“I develop and start to understand their qualities, and the manager wants that. He wants us to play our strengths and now we are starting to find ourselves even better.
“He also wants me to stretch the field. I think that’s pretty obvious, and to bring me into the channels and continue to employ the central defenders. I try to do that. I think I have a good amount of speed and I’m here.”
Hojlund concluded that he admitted his determination to use this moment as a platform to repeat his goal.
“I see it as a good step on the way, but I just want to improve and be better and better,” he confessed. “I know that I am not the finished article, but I just want to keep going and still get better. I am sure that I will get better and score more goals if I only concentrate on it.”
