Manchester United’s first season -friendly season -friendly in summer takes her back to Scandinavia for the eighth time after 14 years.
United traditionally pulled a large fan base from the region in Northern Europe and has played a game on Scandi floor, especially in the last summers.
Although the main part of the club’s official “tour” took place elsewhere, a unique game has been played against a large number of local and international opposition every year since 2019-there was no international trip in 2020 or 2021 based on COVID-19.
Last summer, the Red Devils with Rosenborg in Trondheim, Leeds United, Atletico Madrid and Kristiansund, the latter Ole Gunnar Solskjaers Home Town Club, other opponents for friendly games, all of whom have all played in Norway in the past six years.
This summer, United meets Leeds again after winning last year with the kind permission of gates of young people Noam Emeran and Joe Hugill. But it is played in the Strawberry Arena of Stockholm, the first game of the summer before the season, which is planned on July 19 for 2:00 p.m. BSt (3:00 p.m. CET).
The game will also mark the first visit before the season in Sweden from United since 2016 when Jose Mourinho led the club to a 5-2 victory against Galatasaray in Gothenburg. Mourinho brought his team back to Sweden ten months later and looked at Ajax in Stockholm to win the Europa League.
The Strawberry Arena, which was then known as the Friends Arena, was also the event location for this final. Eight years later, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford are the only surviving United players, but Shaw missed the showdown through injuries and Rashford’s time in the club could soon be over. However, Andre Onana and Matthijs de Ligt played both in this game for Ajax.
The former visit to United in the same stadium in Stockholm took place in 2013, a friendly friend -friend against local team AIK, which was the first game of David Moyes’ first game for European soil after an earlier tour of East Asia and Australia.
This summer, the majority of the pre-season program will take place in the USA and play three games throughout America as part of the Premier League summer series.
