Bayern Munich has confirmed that Alphonso Davies suffered a torn front cruciate ligament in his right knee and ended his hopes to take part in the last phases of the Champions League and in the Gold Cup of this summer with Canada.
Davies will undergo surgery to fix the problem and should be out of operation for at least nine months, which may only give him a limited time to get up to date before the 2026 World Cup.
Bavaria has also confirmed a knee injury for Davies’ teammate Dayot Upamecano, which will be pages for the French for a few weeks.
“Unfortunately, there is always a risk that players will return from international breaks – this time we were hit particularly hard,” said Bavaria’s board member for Sport Max Eberl in a club declaration.
“The lack of Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano is heavily burdening FC -Bayern. Phonzy will receive all the support that he needs on his way to recovery. We will also keep a precise view of UPA in the coming weeks and expect it to be available soon. We have a strong squad and will explain these absences.
“We’ll get closer together now. The quality is there to continue to pursue our big goals.”
Davies recently ended what, like never-ending speculation, felt about moving to Real Madrid by signing a new five-year contract in Bavaria and his future, besides the attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala.
The 24-year-old was an integral part of Vincent Kompany’s Bayern, who would like to recapture her Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen, and things will not be uncomplicated for the 33-time winners, as Davies will miss left-back.
The gap to the reigning master Bayer Leverkusen has already dropped to six points due to the latest indifferent form of Bavaria. However, they are still strong candidates to win the Champions League and are many people to overcome their two -legged quarter -finals with Inter.
