Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim made the fears facilitated before a defensive Injury Crisis before the quarter -finals of the Europa League against Lyon on Thursday.
With Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven and Jonny Evans, who were not already available, United Matthijs de Ligt lost for an injury to the Manchester Derby on Sunday and opened a place on the bench for the 17-year-old Godwill Kukonki.
For United supporters, things became even more worrying when Harry Maguire, who looked uncomfortably, was replaced in the hour after the first start since the calf injury before the international break in March.
Fortunately, Amorim emphasized that Maguire remains healthy and simply pursued a strict protocol program of the club’s medical staff.
“Harry Maguire had just 60 minutes to play from the medical department, so he is fit and ready to go,” revealed Amorim after the game. “So we have to be careful.”
Amorim continued: “It is not a injury, only we had a time when we could use Harry without danger. We can no longer lose players, we have to try to share the moments between the players. We have a really important game on Thursday.”
There was no formal update about de Ligt’s condition, the Dutchman now gets against a struggle for life to prove his fitness before the Lyon game.
“Matta, he has an injury,” offered Amorim. “Let’s see how long it will take.”
Amad Diallo is the only other confirmed absence for the Lyon game when Amorim confessed that midfielder Kobbie Mainoo can return to the match day with a muscle injury after two months.
“Kobbie Mainoo trains with us, we want to be careful with our players again, but maybe he will be in our squad,” concluded the United boss.
