Southampton confirmed the departure of manager Ivan Juric after her descent from the Premier League.
The saints suffered the earliest descent in divisional history, since the defeat on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur on match day 31 confirmed their fate – the earliest game week in which one side ever descended from the competition.
Juric lost 12 of his 14 responsible games after taking control in December when Southampton was already firmly overall after the departure of Russell Martin.
Simon Rusk, who took over temporary control over the side after Martin’s exit at the end of last year, is supported by midfielder Adam Lallana. The 36-year-old has played 18 times since his return to the club last summer, but will now concentrate his efforts to steer the saints by the end of the season.
Although it has already relegated, there is still a lot to play because Southampton is fighting to avoid that it will be the worst side in the history of the Premier League.
The saints are currently sitting on ten points and need two more from their last seven games to cover up the current record from Derby County from the 2007/08 season.
The defeat against Spurs was the 25th of the Southampton’s campaign. The record for most losses in a single campaign is 29, divided by Derby, Ipswich Town (1994/95), Sunderland (2005/06) and Sheffield United (2020/21).
