Manchester United searches for a familiar continental break during her quarter -finals in the first leg against Lyon for Lyon.
This season, the Red Devils were largely horrific for both Erik Ten HAG and after the successor to Ruben Amorim, but their achievements and results were far more consistent in Europe. They are unbeaten in the Europa League and have an excellent opportunity to end an overwhelming campaign with silverware and Champions League qualification.
The resident Lyon represents a considerable risk of the invincible status of United in this year’s Europa League and Amorim has to get the best out of his players during her trip to France.
So United could align on Thursday.
GK: Andre Onana – The United Stopper was at the end of some hard words of the former midfielder Nemanja Matic, who will be based on Lyon. The former Serbia international described Onana as “one of the worst goalkeepers” in the history of the club.
CB: Nussair Mazraoui – Mazraoui was one of the better performers of United during the goalless Manchester Derby at the weekend and has to be highly against a productive Lyon team.
CB: Harry Maguire – Alexandre Lacazette could be Maguires opponent on Thursday evening. It will be more of a battle of intelligence than speed or sportiness.
CB: Leny Yoro – The Frenchman will know Lyon better than any other squad from United and may even have seen Paulo Fonseca’s team defeated his former employer Lille at the weekend.
RM: Diogo Dalot – Dalot will be kept up to the agility on Thursday by the agility and the fast feet of the Argentine International Thiago Almada. The compatriot Nicolas Tagliafico of the Lyon striker will be the man who switches off all marauding runs from Uniteds No. 20.
Cm: Casemiro – Casemiro will not be the oldest man in the engine compartment due to the 36-year-old Matic. The United Middle Field player performed some quiet impressive performance last month.
Cm: Manuel Ugarte – Ugarte made two templates available during his only meeting with Lyon in Paris Saint-Germain-Farben. This is twice as high as his Assist -Tally since he joined too United.
LM: Patrick Dorgu – Dorgu was not convinced of the left flank during the Manchester derby and has to increase his level, with Luke Shaw returning to Lyon to the Matchday squad.
Am: Bruno Fernandes – The United skipper remains her only consistent target threat, and the Red Devils will need Fernandes to summon part of his brand magic – as he did in the last 16 against Real Sociedad.
Am: Alejandro Garnacho – The minutive youngster was all broods and not a steak this season, and Amorim urgently needed a greater consistency and output of the talented Argentine.
ST: Joshua Zirkzee – Another anonymous display reform Rasmus Hojlund at the weekend could return the somewhat more lively circle. He scored his first European goal for United on her last trip abroad.
