Real Madrid learn length of Kylian Mbappe suspension after Alaves red card

Kylian Mbappe will serve a one-game suspension after it in Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory against Alaves.

After the referee had only distributed a yellow card on the field, a VAR check quickly found that the ugly challenge of Mbappe had earned a straight red.

It later turned out that the referee’s match report Cesar Soto Grado described the incident as a bad challenge than acting as an act of violence, which means that Mbappe could no longer serve more than a ban on three games.

The Spanish Football Association (RFEF) has now given the minimum penalty for the incident.

Mbappe will therefore miss a visit to the Athletic Club at the weekend, but it will be free to return to Getafe, and then, perhaps above all, on April 26, in the final of the Copa del Rey on Barcelona.

Antonio Blanco, the Alaves player at the reception end of Mbappe’s challenge, revealed after the game that the France international had apologized privately for the tackle and were happy to continue.

“He is obviously injured, disappointed by what happened,” Madrid Manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed against Arsenal on Wednesday up to the quarter -finals of the Champions League.

“He trained very well, very motivated … and of course we need him tomorrow. Because it’s not just about defending; we have to score a goal. And he did a lot this season. We need him more than ever tomorrow.”
