Virgil van Dijk has admitted that he fell in love with everything about Liverpool and made the decision to sign a new contract for a simple contract.
After months of nervous speculation, van Dijk set up a new two -year contract on paper on Thursday after having to commit his future to the club to the club for the foreseeable future.
Despite the rumors of a possible change to European heavyweights such as Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain or Inter, van Dijk insisted that he hesitated to extend his stay at Liverpool by 2027.
“It always felt right,” he said to Club Media. “From day one, I said it that it felt right and I think it has been shown in the years that we have spent together so far. And obviously more years.
“It is the right place for me to spend my best years and to be successful with the club, how we have been over the years, and hopefully the future. And I love the city, I love the club, I love the fans. I love my teammates. I love everything that Liverpool embodies, and much more.”
While the feeling of the family in Liverpool contributed to his decision at a personal level, van Dijk also admitted that he was the best for his wife and children.
“It is an emotional day, not only for me, but also for my family,” he continued. “My children are almost like scousers, they know nothing more than Liverpool, especially my two youngest.
“You live your life from obviously where I come in Holland and you live a very good life, a blessed life, but we also live this good life because of the people in Liverpool, the club, the fans. So it is a relationship that I really appreciate.
“It helps me and is also what embodies me that I really love how the club is in general, what it stands for and these principles and values are really important for me and my family.”
