Liverpool confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave the club the next month at the end of his contract and the way for a free transfer to Real Madrid.
The saga has put on the whole season, with Alexander-Arnold approaching the end of his Angard deal and opposing a new contract against the freelance agency.
“First of all, I want to say that it is not an easy decision and there is a lot of thought and feeling that I was 20 years here, loved every minute of it, reached all my dreams and have achieved everything I ever wanted here,” said Alexander-Arnold.
“Give everything I have a day every day for 20 years, and now I have a point at which I have the feeling that I need a new change, a new challenge for me as a player and as a person. And I think now is the right time for me to do that.”
Alexander-Arnold made his debut as a teenager in Liverpool in 2016 and recently exceeded 350 appearances for the club. He will leave ANFELD after winning two Premier League titles, a FA Cup, a League Cup, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Championship.
The 26-year-old was courted by Real Madrid for several months, with the Spanish Giants even pursuing a low Balls January approach after Dani Carvajal’s long-term injury. It is expected that he has a salary increase in Madrid, but challenges the highest earners in the club.
As Free Agent, Alexander-Arnold could only officially enter Madrid on July 1st, which means that he could not take part in the upcoming extended and newly formatted FIFA Club World Championship.
In Spain, however, it was said that FIFA could join FIFA even earlier during the extraordinary transmission window. Alexander-Arnold would have to do without his Liverpool wages for June, while the club was able to take a nominal transmission fee.
Liverpool is expected to promote from the inside instead of getting involved in the transfer market for a replacement and trusting in Conor Bradley.
