Bayer Leverkusen middle field player Florian Wirtz admitted his interest in testing himself in a new environment before a summer transfer Windows that could bring a blockbuster to move out.
The 22-year-old Wirtz approaches the last two years of his contract and is attacked by the wealthy trio of Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid, all of which were associated with a deal that could be worth almost € 150 million (£ 127.2 million).
The three interested clubs recently claimed that Wirtz preferred a summer change to Bayern.
While Leverkusen has not yet given up hope of keeping Wirtz, they seem to fight a lost fight, and the Germany international has now left the door open to get a way away in the near future.
“I am very happy to have so many excellent clubs right on my doorstep and now play for one of the best clubs in Germany and Europe,” he said to Sports Illustrated Germany. “I have great respect for the boys here in Leverkusen, who come from South America or Africa, for example, and leave their families and their surroundings for their career.
“I am definitely interested in leaving my comfort zone at some point and experiencing something new. I know that the football course rooms are good enough and I am convinced that I would quickly find a place everywhere.”
Wirtz also laughed suggestions that his next club has already been decided.
“I keep seeing contributions about myself on social media,” he continued. “Every now and then I have to laugh when people write about where I supposedly play in the next season. Nobody but me can know that. So I don’t pay attention to such news and take care of a rather chilled way.”
Leverkusen was able to leave a number of influential figures this summer. In addition to Wirtz, there is considerable uncertainty in relation to the future of manager Xabi Alonso, from which it is expected to join Real Madrid and be assumed that she wants to bring Wirtz to Spain with him.
Madrid was also associated with central defender Jonathan Tah, who has many admirers while preparing to leave the club on a free transfer.
