The head coach of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim, has warned his team against dropping their focus and admitted that on Thursday against Athletic Club they could easily be at the wrong end of a dramatic semi-final comeback.
Despite their domestic discomfort -United sits with three games in the Premier League rating -The Red Devils are overwhelming favorites to reach the Europa League final after they had brewed a 3-0 win at Athletic last week in the first leg of last week.
Athletic is without suspended central defenders Dani Vivian and the most important attack streak by Oihan Sancet and the Williams Brothers, Nico and Inaki, for the game on Thursday, which further increases United’s chances of winning.
However, Amorim insisted that the form of United means that they cannot afford to consider something for granted.
“We have to suffer a little to go to the final and we are ready to suffer,” he said. “Sometimes we are a team during the game and then we lose the mind a little.
“If you look at our season, everything is possible. We have to understand that a goal can change everything: the dynamics of the game, a shipment abdication, you saw it a week ago. We are fighting for the game. We think about winning the game.”
Amorim intensified his concern and admitted that his United team was the worst team in the Premier League since he was in the club. He admitted to win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League, would not cover the bitterly disappointing season of the association.
“For me we are at that moment and you are looking at the Premier League, we are the worst team since I arrived in relation to the results,” he continued. “This is my idea. At the end of the season we can be the worst team in the history of the Premier League with a European title.
“So we won’t change anything. We know that this season was disappointing. Nothing will change, at that moment I have to think a little more, but I had the feeling. I still have the feeling that this season has been the worst in the past 50 years.”
