The outgoing manager of Bayer Leverkusen Xabi Alonso said that his star playmaker Florian Wirtz had already decided on one move to Bayern Munich this summer.
The main conversation topic for Alonso at the penultimate press conference before the game of his Leverkusen career was not surprisingly revealing his upcoming exit. The coveted Spanish coach confirmed his decision to step down as managers after the last two games of the Bundesliga campaign before many expect them to be a appointment at Real Madrid.
While Alonso would not be pulled at his next destination, he opened up for Wirtz’s uncertain future.
After another extraordinary season, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester City were all strongly associated with a change for Leverkusen’s two-way attack. Numerous reports in Germany recently claimed that Wirtz had decided to stay in the Bundesliga and to join Bayern.
In these claims, Alonso quickly stopped speculation. “Florian Wirtz didn’t tell me that he just wanted to go to Bavaria,” he replied. “These are not my information.”
Wirtz has publicly discussed the opportunity to leave Leverkusen in the past few days, even though he has pointed out to move further towards Bavaria. “I have great respect for the boys here in Leverkusen, who come from South America or Africa, for example, and leave their families and their surroundings for their career” Sports Illustrated Germany this week.
“I am definitely interested in leaving my comfort zone at some point and experiencing something new. I know that the football course rooms are good enough and I am convinced that I would quickly find a place everywhere.”
Every club that is interested in snapping Wirtz must pay for the privilege. Leverkusen is expected to request € 150 million (£ 127.2 million) in the region for a player whose contract will not expire until 2027.
Picture have claimed that Bayern are ready to integrate the services of the club sponsor Adidas in order to finance such a record amount. In the search for a Kevin de Bruyne replacement in Manchester City, funds are said to be available in January despite its costly edition during the transfer window, while Real Madrid recorded an additional advantage.
If Alonso – as reported in general – takes over the Spanish giants this summer, it is expected to be pushing the arrival of Wirtz.
