However, the 20-year-old will stay with the Eagles and greatly strengthen Oliver Glasner’s team.
Wharton wasn’t the only Palace player Bayern had on their radar this summer, with Michael Olise already joining the German giants for a transfer fee of £60 million.
After coming through the academy at Blackburn, Wharton made his senior debut in August 2022 and has made 28 appearances in all competitions this season.
The midfielder became a first-team regular at Ewood Park, making 29 appearances for Blackburn in the first half of last season before joining Crystal Palace for £18 million.

Although it was expected that Wharton would need some time to adjust to life in the Premier League, he immediately felt at home in the top flight.
Wharton started 15 of the club’s remaining 16 Premier League games and established himself as a key player under Glasner.
This led to the then 19-year-old being called up to the England squad for Euro 2024 and he made his debut in a friendly against Bosnia in June.
His meteoric rise was so rapid that Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid have already expressed interest.
But Wharton will stay at Palace and hope to prove himself as a fully-fledged Premier League star.
