The Liverpool manager Arne Slot insisted on the fact that after a negative reaction to his upcoming exit this season, he will not continue to play right-back this season.
Alexander-Arnold, who will leave a free transfer and joins Real Madrid, was broke out by a section of Liverpool fans during a handful of occasions during the 2-2 draw on Sunday, including the time when his name was read before the game and when he entered the field as a second half-change.
Slot has already defended Alexander -Arnold against criticism – an attitude that the left -back Andy Robertson shared – and the Reds boss has now emphasized his willingness to continue to play the English international in the last two weeks of the season.
“I think I want to win a football game, and if we believe that we can win with Trent, I owe it to his teammates and fans because they asked me to win as many football games as possible,” said Slot. “And if I think there is a better chance of winning with Trent, then I’ll do it [pick him].
“If I think it is a distraction or whatever that can happen not to play a good football game, I could, maybe another decision. But I think Trent has shown today why I was with a few fantastic crosses to win the game.”
The Reds legend Jamie Carragher, who admitted his “disappointment” towards Alexander-Arnold’s decision in March, urged those who exercise the right-back to rethink their actions before the end of the season.
“If you are in a lot of 60,000 people, there are undoubtedly many unfortunate people in Liverpool,” said Carragher Sky Sport. “And I said that is understandable.
“But for me I said it before and said the same thing in Leicester, where there were a few boos in the away department. I don’t think every player attracts this red shirt and goes out there to get three points or winning titles that wins trophies should be booed.
“I understand there are many unusual. And some people outside of Liverpool can’t understand that. I do that. [But] It is not for me to build one of your own players playing. “
