Arne Slot, manager of Liverpool, confirmed that Joe Gomez asked to be removed against Plymouth Argyle because he feared that “things go wrong” if he should try to continue.
The 27-year-old headed a strongly rotated Liverpool team against an Argyle team who supported the championship table after winning only five of their 30 games.
But he only took ten minutes of a game, the Liverpool lost 1-0, with the kind permission of Ryan Hardie’s penalty after the handball of midfielder Harvey Elliott.
Gomez just returned to action after a thigh injury in the 5-0 victory against West Ham United at the end of December, and Slot confirmed after the game that he was not yet sure whether the diverse defense lawyer was recurring the same problem.

Slot decided to rest by Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate for the trip to the home park, although the duo was not even led to the bank for the current leader of the Premier League. As such, Gomez made a seat for the young full-back Isaac Mabaya when he started the boy sacrificed in the second half when Liverpool tried to get back into the tie.
