Arne Slot has been warned that Liverpool’s reported interest in one of his former players makes little sense.
The Reds would have envisaged a quiet January transfer window after a £446million summer boom before injury devastated their squad.

Liverpool broke the British transfer record with the signing of Florian Wirtz for £116.5 million, and then again when Alexander Isak moved for £125 million.
However, the latter will be sidelined for months after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury, which also included a broken fibula.
He is one of several long-term absentees for Liverpool, with Giovanni Leoni suffering a cruciate ligament injury on his debut for the club in September.
Conor Bradley came last as the right-back was ruled out for the rest of this season with a knee injury sustained against Arsenal.
As a result, Liverpool have been linked with accelerated defensive reinforcement plans after also seeing a deadline deal for Marc Guehi collapse in August.
Feyenoord star Givairo Read is reportedly among the players the Premier League champions are keeping an eye on this month.
who is Read Givairo?
Liverpool coach Slot signed the 19-year-old in 2023 and gave the teenager his debut against Roma in the knockout rounds of the Europa League.
Since then, Read has established himself as Feyenoord’s first-choice right-back with two assists in 12 Eredivisie games this season.
However, European football expert Andy Brassell believes a proposed move to Anfield makes little sense, particularly in the January window.

Transfer “seems a bit crazy to me”
Brassell told The Pitch Prospect.com exclusively: “I like the idea of signing a younger player who hasn’t played in the Premier League… We’ve spoken to Viktor Gyökeres about adapting to the Premier League and he’s a bit more experienced and has played in England in some capacity.”
“The idea that Liverpool would do that and just drop him in the middle of the season, especially when Jeremie Frimpong is still getting used to the Premier League, seems a bit crazy to me to be honest.”
“It is obvious to simply use Joe Gomez as a cover.
“Of course he’s a completely different type of right-back, but that’s okay because Frimpong and Bradley are different types of right-backs too.”
“And Feyenoord has had a difficult few weeks. Robin van Persie is under a bit of pressure for the first time.”

“Ajax are catching them in the race for a place in the Champions League, PSV are on the rise, nobody can catch them in the title fight.”
“So to me it doesn’t make a lot of sense, especially this mid-season, unless you think he’s going to be a long-term solution and you get rid of Bradley and Frimpong, which seems unlikely to me.”
Should Liverpool still decide to pursue his interest, Read has already made a request to reunite with Slot.
When asked to choose between Manchester City and Man United as his favorite team in the Premier League, the Dutchman replied: “Liverpool, definitely! Nothing else, no one else.”
