Arsenal poised to beat Premier League rivals to signing of ‘next Martin Odegaard’

According to The Pitch Prospect, Arsenal are hoping to fend off interest from other Premier League clubs in signing Rosenborg star Sverre Nypan.

The Gunners are in advanced talks with the Norwegian side to bring the teenage playmaker to the Emirates Stadium.

Although the deal is not yet in the final stages of completion, Arsenal are the leading candidates looking to secure his services.

Both Aston Villa and Brighton are admirers of the 18-year-old, who is considered one of Europe’s brightest talents.

Meanwhile, LaLiga club Girona is also interested in the youngster in the race to sign the player who is being traded as the “next Martin Odegaard”.

According to recent reports, Manchester City are in the race to sign the attacking midfielder.

Nypan was in attendance at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening to watch the Citizens’ 3-1 win over Chelsea.

With Rafaela Pimenta, he even has the same agent as City striker and compatriot Erling Haaland.

But The Pitch Prospect understands Pep Guardiola’s men will not make a move for Nypan before the February 3 deadline.

Instead, their Premier League title rivals Arsenal are confident they will be the ones to win the race for Nypan to join Norwegian captain Odegaard at London Colney.

It is believed that Nypan would immediately become part of Mikel Arteta’s first team, where he would provide some much-needed creativity in the middle of the park.

Nypan can operate as a number 8 or a number 10 and would likely be deployed as a left central midfielder should he line up in north London.

Nypan is considered Norway’s next big star after Haaland and Odegaard and will enter the stage in 2022.

In November of the same year, he made Rosenborg history by becoming the club’s youngest player and making his senior debut at the age of 15 years and 322 days.

Just six months later, he became the league’s youngest goalscorer at just 16 years and 145 days.

And in the most recent 2024 Eliteserien season, he contributed an impressive eight goals and seven assists in 28 games.

His dazzling performances earned him the Eliteserien Young Player of the Season award for the second year in a row.

With fellow teenagers Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly receiving regular playing time under Arteta, Nypan could be the latest teenager to make a name for himself at the Emirates.
