In a transfer that had sent shock waves in the Premier League, the 61-year-old was interested in a move to the rivals of Arsenal Chelsea.
You just have to ask the GoPoners what she from Ashley Cole, a graduate of the academy, after moving from Arsenal to Chelsea in 2006.
Wright was frustrated in Highbury after replacing repeated arguments with the new boss Bruce Rioch, who replaced George Graham in 1995.
It was Graham who brought Wright in 1991 from Crystal Palace to his youth club, where she won the FA Cup, the Liga Cup and the European Cup winner of the winners together.
After enjoying a special bond with Graham, his relationship with Rioch was the opposite, while occasionally he was not played in position on the wing.
Rioch also rubbed Wright in the wrong way by describing him as “Charlie Big Potatoes”.
While the center forward became increasingly annoying after Rioch had explained that his former striker John McGinlay in Bolton had achieved a chance that Wright spotted.
His anger culminated in March 1996 when he made a transfer request in Chelsea.
Wright said at the time: “I am no longer happy. There were certain things that happened this season that hurt me.
“They don’t decide to go out in a great club like Arsenal in one afternoon.

“I tortured myself forever to torture myself about what to do for the best. The conclusion is that I have not been happy for some time.”
His wish to leave the then manager Glenn Hoddle from Chelsea caused: “If Arsenal says that Wright is available, we would be interested.
“But if you say he has to stay, we will respect this decision.”
Arsenal confirmed the request from Wright, which they immediately rejected, like the managing director of the club, Ken Friar, noted: “The board of directors said that they are not willing to make his application for transfer, which he recently made.
“This was a unanimous decision by the board and manager.
“Ian’s contribution to the success of the club has been considerable in recent years, and we are sure that as a real specialist, this will continue to be the case throughout the rest of his contract.
“We all want him to stay.”

Wright later insisted that he would “see what happens at the end of the season”, since he continues to displeasure about Rioch’s then chairman David your speech.
Since Wright was still unhappy in the club, the decision was made to separate from Rioch after just one season.
Rioch had secured the UEFA Cup football after he had sealed fifth place – seven places from the 1994/95 season – and immediately [32].
After 431 days, however, he was still shown the door, which is the shortest constant management magic of the club since William Elcoat in 1899.
Arsenal turned to the relatively unknown Arsene Wenger, who led Monaco to Ligue 1 -ruhm in 1988.
And with his appointment, the love for the game that Wright had missed under Rioch’s instructions – and in the term of office in 1996/97, achieved 23 TOP -GTORE – eight more than he managed the previous campaign.

Wright would finally raise the title of Premier League in the following campaign and at the same time won his second FA Cup before he went in 1998.
At the time of his exit, he was a leading top scorer with 185 goals in 288 games in all competitions – a record since Thierry Henry was broken.
But for Wright and Arsenal – she decided to keep Rise at the top.
Wright commented on his failed move to Chelsea to BBC Radio 5 live in 2020 and said: Wright: “Yes [I could have joined Chelsea]Under Glenn Hoddle.
“It was this year that I had with Bruce Rioch that was very hard.

“After Bruce Rioch came in after the first year, we literally argued every day and I thought I should just go because Arsenal would never get rid of him and something would happen between us.
“So I hired this transfer request, they rejected it, everything went into the air and in the end I was in contact with Chelsea.
“It would have been a big mistake for me to go with everything that happened to me in Arsenal in this phase.
“In the end I won the league and got the top scorer in Arsenal’s story before Thierry obviously broke it. It would not have been a good way to go.
“I know that many people have left football clubs over the years because they couldn’t continue with the manager.
“I just have to thank people like David yours and the Arsenal board of directors who recognized this for me, [appointing Rioch] was a mistake.
“It didn’t work. I was very loud and many other players were loud than they were.
“It didn’t matter me to let him know what I felt, and in the end he went.”
While Arsenal under Wenger became innumerable uninterrupted groups, Rioch would never manage again in the Premier League after his release.
And for Wright remains his heir among Arsenal fans.
