Lee Carsley, Manager of England UN-21, intends to stay in contact with Arsenal regularly through superstar teenager Ethan Nwaneri.
After injuries to Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz, the 18-year-old was brought on stage to play in the first team of the Gunners.
Nwaneri, who became the youngest player in the history of the Premier League, when he was for Arsenal at the age of 15 and 181 in September 2022, hit his chance with both hands and impressed on the right wing in the absence of Saka.
A call to Thomas Tuchel’s first English squad in England for the recent international break was advertised, but Nwaneri had to be satisfied with a place in the U21 games-a level that he had not previously played before taking France and Portugal.
Nwaneri scored an excellent individual goal in the latter and, after the game of England, pulled out of Un-21 boss Lee Carsley.
“I think it’s definitely a finish that he has,” said Carsley after the game. “Everyone knows exactly what will happen, but they just can’t stop it. So they know that they go, touch, end it and have taken their goal so well.
“He took his goal so well, but we always have to remember that he is 18 years old, incredible, right?
Carsley explained that his main concern is to maintain and promote the development of Nwaneri, which will only be possible through close cooperation with his employers at the club level.
“We just have to encourage these boys, it is important that the rest of the team also supports him because I am not sure whether it is always as progressive as it is,” said Carsley. “But God, what an impression he made. It is important that we take care of him and make sure that the right thing is the right one.
“Of course we will work with Arsenal and make sure that we are on the same side.”
