Bayern Munich respond to Christopher Nkunku interest as Chelsea set asking price

FC Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has played down reports of interest in Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku.

After being forced to accept a reserve role under Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, Nkunku was tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this month and reports from Germany have named the 27-year-old as Bayern’s top target for the January transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea slapped a €70m (£59.1m) price tag on Nkunku’s head The Telegraph I estimate this figure to be closer to £65 million. Such a figure would see Chelsea make a profit on the initial £52m paid to sign Nkunku from RB Leipzig in 2023.

As part of negotiations between the two clubs, Chelsea have reiterated their interest in signing Bayern striker Mathys Tel, although the Bundesliga club have already confirmed their desire to keep the young Frenchman.

Freund, who previously played down the idea of a move for Nkunku towards the end of 2024, has once again distanced Bayern from a move for the Chelsea striker.

When asked whether Nkunku was being discussed in Munich, Fruend said Sky Sports Germany: “NO!

“If that’s the case, we’ll continue the season [with the current squad]“That is our plan, then it is not a topic of discussion that we bring in an attacker, because we are very, very well positioned in terms of both quality and numbers.”

Bayern have reportedly already reached an agreement on personal terms with Nkunku, who is keen to return to the Bundesliga this month, despite Freund’s public insistence.
