Ben Godfrey could make shock European switch with Everton to take huge loss on defender

Everton defender Ben Godfrey could be set to play in the Champions League next season, The Pitch Prospect has learned, amid interest from AC Milan.

The 26-year-old could be kicked out of Goodison Park this summer, which would be a heavy blow for coach Sean Dyche.

Milan are considering signing Everton centre-back Godfrey in the summer.

Godfrey was rarely used in the first half of the 2023/24 season, appearing in just two Premier League games in his first 17 appearances.

However, he managed to regain his place in the starting eleven, where he played in both full-back positions.

However, his future remains uncertain as the natural centre-back is tied to Everton until 2025.

This has led to Milan, who finished second in Serie A, eyeing the two-cap England international as a possible option.

Should Godfrey move to San Siro, he would join forces with his Three Lions colleagues Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Everton are aware that Godfrey represents a huge financial loss for them after signing him from Norwich for £25 million in 2020.

Milan’s Italian rival Atalanta is also still interested in the player. After their triumph in the Europa League, Gian Piero Gasperini’s team will also play in Europe’s premier class.

Godfrey was the subject of interest from Atalanta during the winter transfer window, but no agreement could be reached with the Merseyside team.

Since joining Everton four years ago, Godfrey has played 93 times in all competitions.

Due to his impressive form in his debut season, he was named the club’s Young Player of the Season.
