However, the Merseyside team is under pressure to sell players before June 30 for profit and sustainability reasons.

And Everton know they are taking a financial loss on Godfrey after signing him from Norwich for £25 million in 2020.

The Pitch Prospect reported earlier this month that the 26-year-old was attracting interest from Italian clubs.

We told you that in addition to Atalanta, AC Milan was also interested in bringing the English international to the San Siro with two appearances.

But their Serie A rival Atalanta wants to be one step ahead of the Rossoneri, and coach Gian Piero Gasperini is considered a great admirer of the Rossoneri.

The Europa League winners had Godfrey on their radar during the January transfer window but were unable to reach an agreement.

It is believed that the former Canaries player would be willing to join Atalanta, who will play in the Champions League next season.

Should Godfrey move to the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia, he would follow in the footsteps of a number of former Premier League stars.

Since joining Everton four years ago, Godfrey has played 93 times in all competitions.

Due to his impressive form in his debut season, he was named the club’s Young Player of the Season.

And it also secured him a place in Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad for Euro 2020.

He played in the warm-up matches against Austria and Romania, but was later omitted from Southgate’s final team.
