‘Break the bank’ – Piers Morgan urges Arsenal to pay whatever it costs to sign ‘best striker in Europe’

Arsenal will have to ‘break the bank’ to sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak – Kai Havertz will never be good enough.

That’s the opinion of Gunners fan Piers Morgan, who has urged his beloved team to enter the transfer market during difficult weeks in north London.

Alexander Isak should be at the top of Arsenal's shopping list, says Piers Morgan

A draw against Brighton in the Premier League last week left Mikel Arteta’s side six points behind Liverpool before they faced a formidable challenge with a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle to reach the Carabao Cup final.

Things got worse when Arsenal failed to beat 10-man Manchester United on Sunday and Havertz wasted numerous chances, meaning their hopes of winning the FA Cup were over for another season.

With Bukayo Saka out injured and Gabriel Jesus facing a lengthy layoff, the Gunners are struggling for impact and according to die-hard Arsenal fan Morgan, it’s time for the club to do something about it.

Speaking on the The Pitch Prospect breakfast show, Morgan said: “How many times have I been on your show since then in the last three years [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang was pushed out the door?

“He was a truly world-class striker who had an incredible goalscoring record for Arsenal.

“Okay, Arteta didn’t want him, that’s fine, so who are you going to replace him with?

“And the reality is that I very calmly and politely suggested that we need to sign a proper striker, but the days of calm are now over, gentlemen. We need a damn striker! A real one!”

One player Morgan believes would tick all the boxes is Newcastle star Alexander Isak, who has scored 15 goals in all competitions this season, including ten goals in his last nine games.

Asked who Arsenal should sign, Morgan replied: “I would literally go to Newcastle in a heartbeat with a barrel of cash and break the bank to sign Alexander Isak.”

“£100m, £120m, £140m, £150m – I don’t care. I will find the players of our 87 defenders that we have signed in the last two years to supplement the money for the PSR stuff.

“The way we play, the chances we create – do you know how many shots we had this week? 49 shots.

“Do you know how many goals we scored? One. Do you know who shot it? Gabriel, a central defender.”

“If that doesn’t mean anything to you, I don’t know what does.

“We don’t have a proper striker and one of our two makeshift strikers, Gabriel Jesus, now looks like he will be out for the season, which is heartbreaking for him after the recent injury and I feel incredibly sorry for him.

“The idea that Kai Havertz will be the guy to win us big trophies as Arsenal leaders is for the birds and every Arsenal fan knows it.

“Why doesn’t Mikel Arteta know? Why does he trust everything to this guy who is a perfectly good footballer but not number nine? He is not a striker.

When asked about Isak, Morgan added: “If you want to win big trophies and be ruthless, you have to sign the best players.”

“And at the moment Isak is the best striker in Europe.

“Arsenal, break the damn bank!”
