Burnley go viral for using Oasis to announce signing of Manchester United academy graduate

Burnley may no longer play in the Premier League, but their latest transfer announcement video is supersonic.

The Clarets are known for releasing clever transfer clips when confirming the arrival of a new signing – and now they have made the most of the reunion of legendary English band Oasis this week.

The Championship club signed Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United on Wednesday for four years.

And whoever manages Burnley’s social media accounts surely deserves a bonus for brilliantly inventing an Oasis pun to introduce their new midfielder.

“Because Mejbri,” the Clarets captioned the video, a play on words from a line from the chorus of Oasis’ most famous song, Wonderwall.

After the first introduction of the Gallagher brothers in the clip, Hannibal appears with a guitar.

Then Burnley changes the lyrics from “And after all, you’re my Wonderwall” to “you’re my Hannibal”.

Although the Clarets are known for their creativity in this field, their fans were impressed by their latest performance; at the time of writing, the X-post already had 800,000 views.

“This Mejbri is simply the best transfer announcement ever,” said one.

But while football fans on social media absolutely loved the crossover between Oasis and the football transfer, we wonder what Noel and Liam will think of it.

Hannibal played for Man United’s academy and made his first-team debut in 2021.

The 21-year-old played 13 times for the Red Devils in the last Premier League season and scored a goal in the 3-1 defeat to Brighton.

And it’s no secret that the Gallaghers hate Man United with a passion, as they are die-hard fans of their rivals Manchester City.

Some might say that the fact that Burnley used their iconic song to announce the arrival of a man representing their opponents might have been met with mixed reactions from the pair.

The Clarets initially spent £5.4 million on the midfielder, with the amount set to rise to £9.4 million. Man United also have a buy-back option and a 50 percent sell-on clause.

Manager Scott Parker hopes he shines as bright as a supernova… Sorry, I couldn’t resist!

Meanwhile, Oasis announced their first tour as a band since 2009 on Tuesday morning.

Liam and Noel have put an end to their long-standing feud and are now reuniting for a tour of the UK and Ireland next year.

In June, Saudi boxing boss HE Turki Alalshikh announced that Liam had been booked as a special guest for three Oasis classics during the Riyadh Season Card between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.

This will take place on September 21st at Wembley – and fans will be wondering if Noel will be there.
