Celtic take first step towards signing nine-cap England international


According to The Pitch Prospect, Celtic have made an initial inquiry for West Ham striker Callum Wilson.

Any move is expected to be contingent on Wilson becoming a free agent and talks over an exit from the Hammers are ongoing.

Wilson is keen to leave the Hammers and Scotland is his potential next destination.

It is believed Wilson wants to leave the London Stadium, but Celtic want to understand Wilson’s interest in playing in Scotland and his salary expectations before expressing any interest.

The Glasgow side are looking for several attackers this winter and have also inquired about Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana.

Fofana is currently on loan at Turkish club Fatih Karagumrük, where he scored seven goals in 14 appearances.

Celtic’s striker options have been exhausted following an injury to Callum Osmand.

The summer signing has been out since November with a thigh injury and has missed the last 16 games.

Fellow center forwards Kelechi Iheanacho, Shin Yamada and Johnny Kenny have only scored eight goals between them this season.

Wednesday’s win over Falkirk leaves Celtic six points behind leaders Hearts and level on points with Rangers.

Burnley and Leicester are also aware of Wilson’s situation, while Saudi clubs Al Ettifaq and Al Shabab both considered signing the former Newcastle striker before he moved to West Ham.
