Reigning Scottish champions Celtic are looking to bring in a new No.1 this summer, with Hart, who is leaving Parkhead, having decided to hang up his gloves.

The former England No1 will be hoping to end his 21-year career by helping the Bhoys to a league and cup double. Celtic currently lead Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership and will also face their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Premiership Scottish Cup final in May.

But the club have already moved forward with their plans to replace Hart, with the experienced Begovic on their shortlist.

The 36-year-old is expected to become a free agent in the summer as his contract with Championship side QPR expires.

Begovic has made 46 appearances for the Rs so far this season, having arrived on a free transfer following his departure from Everton last summer.

It is only his second season ever playing in the second tier, having made 256 appearances in the Premier League and kept 63 clean sheets in 15 seasons with Portsmouth, Stoke City, Chelsea, Bournmeouth and the Toffees in the top flight played.

He is now being scouted for a possible move to Scotland as Celtic explore the possibility of replacing Hart this summer.

However, we understand that Begovic is willing to stay at QPR this summer.

The Rs secured their Championship status with a 4-0 win over Leeds United on Friday – a result which also gave their promotion rivals Leicester City a return to the Premier League.

With safety now assured, Begovic is keen to extend his stay at Loftus Road and hopes to begin negotiations with the club on a new contract to remain there.

However, this is unlikely to knock Celtic out of contention as the goalkeeper previously praised the Scottish giants after scoring against them in a mid-season friendly for Everton.

After the 2022 Sydney Super Cup match in Australia, which Everton won on penalties, Begovic said: “It was nice to win, nice to put in a performance.”

“When you play against a team like Celtic you know you’re always going to be in a competitive game – that’s exactly what we got today.”
