Borussia Dortmund plan to start discussions about a permanent liability with Chelsea act A report was claimed for the loan Carney Chukwuemeka.
The English U21 international, born in Austria, had no place in the plans of Enzo Maresca near Chelsea this season and moved to Dortmund in search of the football of the first team in January. Chukwuemeka made a promising start in his spell in the Ruhr region, but was still held by injuries.
The concerns about the fitness of the midfielder prompted Dortmund to overlook the opportunity to make his loan agreement permanently, which Chelsea put a considerable headache who wanted to unload the 21-year-old this summer. The club had received a purchase option of € 35 million (£ 29.4 million in its loan offer.
However, Fabrizio Romano States that Dortmund had a change of heart. The Bundesliga outfit should be very interested in expanding Chukwuemeka’s stay beyond the summer, although they may try to agree a lower fee.
Manager Niko Kovac is certainly an enthusiastic admirer. “Carney is a very good footballer who has now been in a situation he has never had before,” enthused the Croatian boss this week. “He didn’t get as many minutes as here at Chelsea. Like every player, he needed a certain time to get started. And then he got what everyone wanted here: the season he needed.
“It is normal to have ups and downs. You have to give a player the opportunity. If he had already been a regular at Chelsea, we would never have got him.”
When the prospect of a permanent transfer to Kovac was brought, it was not so emphatic. “We will discuss this after the season,” fell in love with the former manager of Bayern Munich. “We are very happy to have him. He has shown his skills several times. I personally like him very much.
“But what happens from many factors in summer. Where will we end at the end of the season? What does Chelsea say? What is possible for us?”
