Chelsea take Alejandro Garnacho interest to the next level as Napoli eye alternative

Chelsea are expected to take the next steps towards potentially signing Alejandro Garnacho in January by now approaching Manchester United to negotiate a contract actAccording to reports.

Garnacho, who was a key player under Erik ten Hag, has fallen out of favor in recent weeks under new head coach Ruben Amorim. The Argentine winger has started just four of the last 11 Premier League games and only once since being left out of the derby squad last month.

Amad Diallo was the biggest beneficiary of Garnacho’s sudden fall from grace, often alongside Bruno Fernandes in advanced midfield positions behind a central striker.

Napoli have been heavily linked with a move as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has already been sold to Paris Saint-Germain but the high asking price has not yet been met.

Fabrizio Romano Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Garnacho’s representatives, assessing the player’s interest in a move to Stamford Bridge and progressing talks with United representatives. Reading between the lines, it looks like the Garnacho camp has given the Blues enough encouragement to take the process to the next phase.

Napoli are said to be “still interested” in Garnacho but are hedging their bets by also putting together a package for Borussia Dortmund talent Karim Adeyemi.

Despite being competitive rivals since the late 1990s, United and Chelsea have a track record of doing business when it suits both parties.

Juan Mata moved to Old Trafford for £37.1 million in January 2014, at a time when he was Chelsea’s reigning player of the year, while Juan Sebastian Veron, Mason Mount, Jadon Sancho, Nemanja Matic and Mark Hughes have also moved in the Premier League era between clubs.
