Chelsea seemed to land the experienced France international on the Deadline Day of the Mini Transfer window before the start of the FIFA Club World Championship.

However, the deal collapsed at the last minute, when AC Milan thought for the 29-year-old’s £ 25 million, who only had a year with his contract, the price of £ 25 million.

Chelsea was only ready to pay around 15 million pounds and thus went away from the deal.

The blues have no shortage of options between the sticks with Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders in their squad.

The most expensive goalkeeper in history, Kepa Arrizabalaga, is still in her books, but he goes to London rival Arsenal to become her number 2 in a 5 million pound deal.

With the deal for Maignan, Manager Enzo Maresca has completed himself from the deal and insisted that he and the club are “happy” with their current selection of goalkeepers.

But it is not the former Chelsea defender Scott Minto, and not much of the Stamford Bridge believers.

Minto insists that the signing of a first-class goalkeeper should have a priority signing for the mega-rich blues this summer, and Maignan fits the bill perfectly.

And he asked his old club not to give up the chase.

“In my opinion, you still need a new goalkeeper,” Minto told Talksport.

“You supposedly ended Mike Maignan’s persecution, but I would be very surprised if that were the case.

“Maresca came out and said they were satisfied with the goalkeepers they have – they are not! If they were chasing Maignan and Milan gave them the award they wanted, they would have come in, so they are clearly not satisfied with their goalkeeper.

“As much as Sanchez has improved and he doesn’t play around so much in the background, for me he is still not a goalkeeper who brings Chelsea to a title of the Premier League or in Champions League.

“So just go a few million for Mike Maignan.”

Chelsea has already sprayed the money this summer and brought new talents worth over 100 million GBP [£56m] and 22-year-old English striker Liam Delap [£30m].

But Minto insists that Chelsea has to sign some experienced professionals to help them to fight cutlery.

“I want Chelsea to make a ready-made goalkeeper, center half and center forward, provided senior professionals,” added the 1997 FA Cup winner with The Blues.

“Don’t forget, Chelsea had the latest average of 11 by 18 months per person in the Premier League last season and the youngest average 11 in the history of the Premier League.

“So you need some experience. It can make a big difference.

“The goalkeeper role is underestimated that it is really so important. You win games in both boxes. With a first -class goalkeeper and a first -class striker.

“We have to wait and see what happens to a striker, but in my opinion you have to get another goalkeeper.

“Chelsea continues to buy young people, but now they need a pinch of senior professionals in the squad and Mike Maignan would be the one.”
