Arsenals Chloe Kelly is one of two players who were called to the English squad this week due to injuries.
Last Tuesday, Sarina Wiegman appointed her 24-player squad for the upcoming Nations League games of the lionesses against Portugal and Spain. Kelly, who made a loans from Manchester City to Arsenal last month, was a remarkable omission.
The 26-year-old played her first minutes for the Gunners on Sunday in their WSL victory over Tottenham Hotspur, a game that they won 5-0. She replaced Caitlin Foord at the hour and played the last 30 minutes of the game.
Now she was appointed to replace her injured club teammate Beth Mead. Lotte Wubben-Moy with Arsenal star from Arsenal also pulled out due to an injury, with the defender of Aston Villa, Lucy Parker, called in her place.
The English squad teamed up in St. George’s Park on Monday morning and will fly to the Algarve on Friday before its opening nations league game against Portugal. The squad will then return and will compete against Spain in the Wembley Stadium on Wednesday, February 26th.
A number of players were called back to the squad according to their own injury problems, including Lauren James and Manchester United midfielder Ella, Ella, Ella. Laura Blindkilde Brown by Manchester City and Ruby Mace from Leicester City also kept their places after they were called for the first time in the last camp of 2024.
