Manchester United fans have received more insight into the skills of 17-year-old striker Chido Obi, who has been seen in four games of the first team since last month.
Obi came from Arsenal in September with an enormous call at the youth level for his professional goal. United experienced this with 12 goals in nine appearances in the U18 Premier League and in the FA Youth Cup.
He was promoted to the U21 squad in January before he came to the senior side in February.
During this international break, Obi played his first two games for Denmark’s U21 team and as a substitute in friendly games against Poland and Italy-bodies end with draw.
Obi is up to five years younger than some of his teammates and those against whom he struggled, but still managed to impress coach Steffen Hojer.
“He is a very young man. He was there to learn and we had him to judge him,” Hojer told the Danish publication Tip charging. “He makes a good impression and I was very pleased to see how he adapted to the squad and how the boys greeted him.
“He had a really good trip and showed himself well. Now it’s back home to continue working on Manchester United and see if he can get a little more playing time there.”
Hojer refers to Obi’s special skills as a striker and refers to a clinical strip and a positive sense.
“What you hope with a player like him is that he gets them a chance because his absolute key strength is to be in the box and put the ball online,” said the coach.
“This chance did not come. But he came in and worked with the team in a difficult situation, so that you couldn’t really expect much from him.”
