Dani Olmo’s agent insists he remains solely committed to Barcelona as they battle to sign him for the second half of the season.
After only being registered as a temporary emergency measure in the summer, Olmo was stripped of his place in the Barcelona squad by La Liga on 31 December. League rules state that players cannot be re-registered after their original contract expires.
It has opened the door for a move away from Barcelona as Olmo’s contract includes the option for a free transfer if he is not registered, but agent Andy Bara has previously confirmed that Olmo has no intention of leaving.
Although Olmo’s registration has now officially expired, Bara has once again confirmed a commitment to the Blaugrana.
“It’s a stressful situation for Dani, as it would be for any other player,” Bara said GIVEMESPORT. “But he is a great player and person, he tries to stay calm. Of course Dani is a winner and he loves playing the games, not watching them!”
“We are not negotiating with any club. Dani does.” [a] He is a Barcelona player and wants to become a Barcelona player. He has made great efforts in his life to be at Barcelona. It’s been his wish for a long time. Barcelona is the first and last option! Dani, his father, his family, me, we don’t think about other options.
Options available to Olmo include free transfers to clubs such as Manchester United and Manchester City, both of which should take advantage of the uncertainty in Catalonia. When asked about links to the Premier League duo, Bara instead reiterated his confidence that Barcelona will find a way to sign the 26-year-old.
“Of course the best players are when the players are free, but emotions also count,” Bara continued. “We never made a career decision because of money. Dani plays football because he loves the game, he has made great efforts to be at Barcelona. I’m also happy to have Dani at Barcelona, he’s one of the best players in the world at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“We respect the president [Joan] Laporta and [sporting director] Decoration. They made a big effort to get Dani last summer. We like their project, it’s a big project for the future, one of the best in the world in the next few years. We firmly believe that Barcelona will win all the titles in the future, just like they did during the Messi era. The player, the family, me. We all wanted Dani to be in Barcelona.
“To be honest, I feel calm. It might feel strange but I believe in President Laporta, Deco and I have a feeling they will find a solution for Dani. It’s a huge club.”
“I believe that Barcelona will finish everything and make it happen. La Liga should help them instead of these reports that Dani won’t be available for the national team, but I’m sure he will stay at Barca for many years to come. He is happy with the club and Dani has the desire to be there.
