EFL club could re-sign £20m star who has made just five appearances for new club

According to The Pitch Prospect, Leicester City are interested in signing goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

The Foxes sold the Dane to West Ham for a reported £20m in the summer following their relegation from the Premier League.

Hermansen had a difficult time in his debut season at West Ham.

Hermansen started the first four games of the season for the Hammers, but conceded eleven goals in all games.

Alphonse Areola has since replaced him and West Ham are understood to be in talks with Tottenham Hotspur for Antonin Kinsky.

He is expected to compete with Areola for the starting position in goal and his arrival could result in Hermansen leaving the squad.

However, the 25-year-old could return to Leicester for the remainder of the season, although other Championship clubs are also interested.

Jakub Stolarczyk started most league games, but only kept four clean sheets in 26 games.

The Foxes, who sacked Marti Cifuentes earlier this week, are in 16th place and nine points above the relegation zone.

Leicester extended their winless streak to four games with a 2-0 home defeat against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

Even if relegation is unlikely, the lead over the bottom three is still enough to raise fears of relegation.

Hermansen could help improve his position with a return this month, despite impressing in his first spell.

He was the first choice under coach Enzo Maresca during the 2023/24 league title-winning season.

He has already made 72 appearances for the Foxes.

Promotion was followed by appearances in the Premier League, but the 2015/16 champions finished 18th and returned to the second division.

Hermansen is hoping for more regular players this season to be part of the Danish squad at the World Cup.

However, despite regular nominations, he has yet to earn any international caps for his country.

Denmark still needs to qualify for the World Cup but can secure a place in the UEFA play-offs with a win.

They will face North Macedonia in the Path D semi-final and the Czech Republic and the Republic of Ireland in the other match.

The winner will face co-hosts Mexico, South Africa and South Korea in Group A this summer.
