Chelsea Manager Enzo Maresca confessed that he was “unfair” with Christopher Nkunku this season.
Nkunku was firmly behind Nicolas Jackson in the Hack Regulations and only started three games from the Premier League, and was not the first option to replace the Senegal International in the 2-1 victory against West Ham United on Monday. Instead, Maresca turned to the teenager Marc Guiu before he later introduced Nkunku later.
There was a time in the winter transfer window in which Nkunkus was gone from Stamford Bridge. The Bayern Munich agreed with the Frenchman and wanted him to replace Tottenham-Bound Mathys Tel, while Manchester United made his own deadline for Nkunku, only for both sides not to see him ready to listen to loan offers.
Nkunku was looking for a permanent transmission of Chelsea. But the blues wanted almost £ 70 million to approve a sale, while both Bavaria and United operated closer to the 45 million GBP brand and ultimately collapsed a deal.
“Christo has been very good, very professional since the first day,” said Maresca after the victory on Monday.
“I was probably unfair to him in some moments because he probably deserves a little more. But hopefully he can help us a little more from now on.”
The winger Pedro Neto, who came from the bank to compensate for Chelseas against West Ham, revealed Maresca’s upswing from all his substitutes after the game.
“Of course everyone wants to play, but it shows how important it is that everyone is there to help the team, whether they start or come,” Neto told Club Media.
“I think [Gusto] play their role and even Trevoh [Chalobah] defend so well in the last five minutes.
“The manager also says that it is a team game and that we all came in the second half to help the boys, and we are all so happy to help each other.”
