Enzo Maresca clarifies Wesley Fofana injury timeline following dispute

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has decided to end the confusion surrounding central defender Wesley Fofana’s recent appearance Injury.

Fofana suffered a hamstring injury in early December, which he immediately described as “a little warning” and “nothing serious”, but after a month out, Maresca publicly announced that there was a possibility that the 24-year-old could be out for the rest of the season .

The Italian’s statement was reportedly met with confusion by Fofana, who had reportedly claimed on social media that Maresca’s comments were simply “not true”. Quotes attributed to Fofana mention a time frame of between four and six weeks.

When asked about the dispute, Maresca admitted that Fofana disagreed with the diagnosis made by Chelsea’s medical staff.

“We speak the same language as far as communicating with each other in English and French, so it was pretty clear,” he said. “I spoke to Wes – the 12 to 16 weeks the club mentioned is the situation.”

“Wes believes he can recover sooner. We’ll all be happy to see Wes recover and be available tomorrow, but we’ll see.”

“There is no problem, I just told you what the medical staff told me, that it is about 12 to 16 weeks. Wes believes he can recover sooner. We’ll all be happy if Wes gets back as soon as possible.”

Concerns over Fofana’s availability have sparked speculation about a re-signing of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. Loan player Trevoh Chalobah, who is also with the Eagles, could be recalled to sign more players.

“The only thing I can say is that Marc Guehi is a Palace player,” emphasized Maresca. “I definitely like Marc, but he is not our player. But I also like the central defenders we have. I also like different types of central defenders in Italy, Spain and France, but that doesn’t mean we will buy a player.” .

“It’s a normal situation, I think, that there is speculation when central defenders are injured. At the same time, there is nothing there.”

“[The Chalobah situation] is exactly the same. Unfortunately I have to give you the same answer. Trev is a good player but at the moment he is a Palace player so we will see.”
