The Dutch international signed a contract with the RAMs by the end of the 2024/25 season.
Pieters, now 36, have no longer left with Derby County, but the step comes after he had trained with John Eustaces squad in the past few weeks.
He also trained with Middlesbrough before deciding to the Eustace side.
In a club declaration it was: “Pieters, a free agent since the end of his short-term agreement with Luton Town at the beginning of this season, brings an additional depth in left-back and central defenders for the rest of the Sky-Bet championship season.
“He did over 550 career opportunities for the club, including 304 in English football for Stoke City, Burnley and West Bromwich Albion.”
Pieters spent time in various English clubs, with Derby his fifth.
After Pieters started his career at Utrecht before moving to PSV, he moved to Stoke City for six years before going to Burnley.
At PSV he played almost 150 games for the club and is experienced in the football of the Champions League and in the Europa League.
He also enjoyed a loan at the former Amiens of the Ligue 1 page before watching a contract with Burnley permanently.
At the international level, the defender won 14 senior caps for the Netherlands between 2010 and 2014.
He was also part of the youth man, who won the UEFA European U21 championship in 2007.
In an interview with his new club, Pieters said: “I was in other places this season, I was at Luton in the previous season and in December and January.
“Before I came here, I also trained with Middlesbrough. Then the Gaffer sent me a message with the inscription:” What is your situation? “I was still a free agent and I’m ready to go.
“I am in my career during this transition period, but I still felt ready for playing. I was in contact with John Eustace at the beginning of the season when he was at Blackburn Rovers.
“Then, out of the blue, he just sent me when he was at Derby and it was really good for me.”
In his first few weeks with the club, he said: “It is a great group. It was a lot of fun and the group is really determined in what they do. I look forward to being part of it and helping Derby to stay in the league.

“I think I can help the team with my experience. I will help everyone in these eight games behind the scenes. It was really important to stay in the league.
“Everyone knows that if they have victories on their board, it helps.
“It’s just a shame that there is a break between the games and an international break lately. But the boys look good and everyone is ready for the last eight games.”
