According to multiple reports, Erling Haaland has signed a new blockbuster contract with Manchester City, tying him to the club until the summer of 2034.
The Norwegian is in his third season at the Etihad Stadium and has already scored 111 goals in 126 appearances across all competitions – 79 of those goals coming in just 87 Premier League games.
Haaland’s previous contract expired in the summer of 2027 and there were strong indications that Real Madrid or Barcelona would try to lure him to LaLiga to play alongside or against the likes of Kylian Mbappe, despite their ongoing financial problems. Jude Bellingham, Pedri and Gavi.
However, The athlete report that Haaland has now signed a nine-and-a-half-year deal with City in what is considered one of the “most lucrative” sports contracts ever awarded to a professional athlete. Haaland will be almost 34 when the contract ends and it is understood that all previously included release clauses have been removed from the agreement.
Fabrizio Romano states that a new clause will come into force from 2029, although it is unclear what this figure would be, only describing it as “very high figures”.
Haaland’s involvement throughout most of his playing career is a huge boost for a City team coming off a torrid season that will almost certainly see them relinquish their Premier League title.
City have won the title six out of eight times under Pep Guardiola, but a shocking run of form that has produced just two wins in 14 games across all competitions has left them 12 points off the Premier League pace set by Liverpool – they have also with a game in hand – and also way down in the reformatted Champions League table in 22nd place.
Wins in City’s final two group games will be needed to ensure safe passage to the next phase, which will undoubtedly put the pressure on Haaland’s shoulders to deliver. The 24-year-old has scored five goals in six Champions League games so far this season as he sits second in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
News of Haaland’s new contract is expected to be officially announced soon, in what has been an exceptionally busy month in the transfer market for City. Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush is on the verge of a big move and is expected to be joined by centre-back duo Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis.
