Very few players enjoyed the luxury of playing for two of the largest clubs in the world: Liverpool and Real Madrid.
The two European giants have rarely done business over the years, but there have been some top-class shops, with the most striking shops of Liverpool stars, who act for the shine of Santiago Bernabeu.
As soon as these pioneers arrived in the Spanish capital, they enjoyed different levels of success, with several legendary status in Liverpool sacrificing. Trent Alexander-Arnold, eight.
Here are the five players who left Liverpool for Madrid and how everyone was.
Steve McManaman was the first to go directly between Liverpool and Madrid. After the local boy went through the academy on Merseyside, he spent relatively limited success with the red within a period of time. In almost a decade, he only claimed the FA Cup and the league cup.
McManaman endeavored to strengthen his trophy cabinet and moved to Madrid in 1999. Although he initially had difficulty finding his feet with Los Blancos, he soon became a cult field among followers. He won La Liga twice and two more two Champions League titles and formed an impressive relationship with Roberto Carlos on the left.
David Beckham’s arrival in 2003, however, urged McManaman down the Hackords, and the wing player, who made 158 appearances for the Spanish giants, finally went back to England with Manchester City.
Michael Owen’s quick ascent to the spotlight saw the Liverpool supporters quickly in love with their academy star, who was a relentless goal scorer for the Red at a young age. The heroic deeds in the FA Cup final 2000/01 were one of many highlights, but the striker soon burst his legacy in Anfield.
Owen followed the path of McManaman in 2004 when he signed for Madrid, but only lasted one season in the Spanish capital. Despite an impressive return of Tor – 16 in 45 excursions – the competition for places at the beginning of the 2005/06 campaign returned to the Premier League with Newcastle United.
Owen had already burned bridges on his exit from Anfield, but the relationship was missing with Liverpool’s arch -rival Manchester United, Manchester United.
Jerzy Dudek remains an icon in the Liverpool folklore for his amazing display in the Champions League final in 2005 when the Reds came from three goals to beat AC Milan due to penalties in Istanbul. The shootout heroes of Poland International and a particularly extraordinary double saving by Andriy Shevchenko have engraved its name in the history books.
After 186 appearances at Liverpool, Dudek went to Madrid at the age of 34, but was always only Iker Casillas. He only made 12 outings in White for four years before retiring in 2011.
Alvaro Arbeloa had a business with Madrid. The right-back appeared two leading appearances for Los Blancos after spending five years in the academy setup, but was finally forced to look for a football of the first team. Liverpool signed the Spaniard in 2007 after a short stay with Deportivo La Coruna.
Arbeloa impressed during his magic in Angeld and Madrid in 2009 called for their former defender, just two years after Liverpool recruited him. The call was too strong to ignore when he returned to Bernabeu and became a decisive part in the defense of Los Blancos.
He made 238 appearances for the Spanish titans and won the Champions League twice, although he slipped into the periphery with Madrid towards the end of his second spell.
Xabi Alonso retained the legendary status for which he played in every club was the grace and the endeavor of the former midfielder, with real followers of Sociedad, Liverpool, Madrid and Bayern Munich, all of which worshiped the Spaniard.
In Anfield, Alonso has established himself as a really elite midfielder and immediately helped to lead Reds to the Champions League title in his first season. The FA Cup followed next year and it was an integral part of Liverpool 2006/07 more European fame and a first title in the Premier League came close to the club last season.
Alonso made Madrid in 2009 and usually offered consistent and elegant appearances in the machine room. The silky Spaniard won five trophies with the club, including La Liga and the Champions League, before moving to Bavaria Munich in 2014.
Now he trained Bayer Leverkusen and leads them to new heights. He was able to guide Liverpool and Madrid during his management career.
