Every player out for semi-final clash with Tottenham

Liverpool will be aiming for a second win over Tottenham Hotspur in a matter of weeks when they visit north London in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

The Reds triumphed emphatically on their last visit, defeating an injury-plagued and failing Spurs side 6-3 in the Premier League. A three-goal lead at the end of Wednesday’s encounter would more or less secure Liverpool’s place at Wembley.

Spurs have struggled with fitness issues in recent months and Liverpool will look to take full advantage of their midweek woes. Arne Slot has an almost completely healthy squad after the draw against Manchester United at the weekend, although he could rotate his team in the capital.

Here are the Liverpool players missing from the game against Tottenham.

Joe Gomez

Ibrahima Konate’s return from injury was celebrated at the weekend as the France defender made his comeback against Man Utd after spending five weeks in the treatment room. However, he has swapped places with Joe Gomez, who is now on the sidelines.

The versatile Gomez had replaced Konate in the starting line-up during his absence but suffered a hamstring injury in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over West Ham United in Liverpool’s final game of 2024. Slot has confirmed he will be out for a “couple of weeks”, meaning he is unlikely to return before the end of January.

Dominik Szoboszlai

There are no injury problems for Dominik Szoboszlai, who scored and put in an excellent performance in the win over Spurs last month, but the Hungarian is currently battling illness. This saw him miss the weekend’s draw against Man Utd and his ingenuity was sorely missed.

Slot did not rule Szoboszlai out of contention for Wednesday’s game, but warned of a possible return for the game against Tottenham.

“Yesterday [Monday] he wasn’t there [training] still. If he’s here today, I doubt he’ll be available to start the game. But hopefully he’ll be there today. Yesterday he wasn’t,” revealed Slot.
