The women’s football calendar finally resumed at the weekend after the winter break as the fourth round of this season’s FA Cup began.
However, some teams were forced to be out of action for another week as freezing cold and adverse weather conditions led to numerous postponements across the country.
Only nine of the scheduled 16 fourth-round games actually took place, with the remaining seven postponed until later in the month.
WSL teams Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa were all in action and secured their place in the fifth round. Chelsea comfortably beat Charlton Athletic 4-0, while United eventually scored seven goals against National League side West Bromwich Albion at the Leigh Sports Village.
Additionally, the London City Lionesses secured a 5-0 win over Fulham, the lowest placed team in the competition, and Newcastle United secured their place in the next round with a narrow 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest. The fifth round draw will take place at Wembley Stadium on Monday evening and is scheduled to start at around 6:30 p.m. These matches are scheduled for February.
Among the games that have been postponed is Liverpool’s visit to West Ham, with the pitch at the Chigwell Construction Stadium deemed frozen. Leicester City were due to play Stoke City at Meadow Lane in Notts County, but a pitch inspection on Saturday afternoon revealed the icy weather conditions had made the surface unplayable.
Tottenham Hotspur were also due to play Everton at Walton Hall Park on Sunday, but that game was also postponed due to a frozen pitch. Arsenal’s meeting with Bristol City at Meadow Park has also been postponed.
