The former striker of Liverpool, Roberto Firmino, will no longer be able to play in the Saudi Pro League this season after Al Ahli has decided to replace him in her 25-player squad.
The Brazilian drove to the Middle East in July 2023 and brought the curtain for an extremely successful career in Liverpool, where Firmino won seven trophies under Jürgen Klopp, including the Champions League and the Premier League.
Firmino did not have the expected influence at Al Ahli and achieved a return of 14 goals in 49 Saudi Pro League appearances in the summer.
At the end of the transfer window, Al Ahli injected the money in January and spent EUR 50 million for Porto striker Galeno and had the decision to register for the rest of the Saudi -Pro league season.
Only 10 foreign players can be registered in a 25-player squad, two of which have to be or below the age of 21 or under, and Al Ahli has decided to make Firmino out of their plans.
“It was a difficult decision for the club and based on the rules,” said Al Ahli boss Matthias Jaissle about the call. “We appreciate him and he dealt with it professionally. He is still one of our managers.”
Firmino will still be able to play for Al Ahli in the AFC Champions League if it is selected, but his exclusion from the Saudi -Pro league campaign indicates that his time in the club -despite one year, earns more every week Significant amount of money.
