This led to the 22-year-old undergoing his medical examination in America, where the West Londoners are currently in the USA for pre-season training.

And now his arrival at Chelsea has been officially announced: the young man signed a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge with the option of a further twelve months.

Jorgensen said: “This move is a dream come true. I am delighted to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can’t wait to meet everyone and play with all my new teammates.”

Rory Jennings criticises Romelu Lukaku’s career at Chelsea and says he should be on the list of worst Premier League signings of all time… twice.

New head coach Enzo Maresca was keen to sign a new goalkeeper this summer to compete with Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic.

Jorgensen is known for his passing ability and his profile has been identified as a perfect complement to Maresca’s playing style, which requires the goalkeeper to be confident with the ball.

The 22-year-old has already demonstrated his creative talent when he immediately joined Chelsea’s training.

The Pitch Prospect correspondent Ben Jacobs published a video of Jorgensen training immediately after his signing.

He is the sixth goalkeeper Chelsea has signed since 2018 and the fourth since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital completed their takeover two years ago.

Jorgensen is the seventh player Chelsea have signed this summer as Maresca looks to put together a team capable of qualifying for the Champions League.

Tosin Adarabioyo was the club’s first signing on a free transfer, before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall followed Maresca in a £30 million deal from Leicester.

Chelsea have now also secured the services of Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, Renato Veiga and Caleb Wiley.

And seven will soon become eight when teenage defender Aaron Anselmino joins from Boca Juniors for around £16 million.

Jorgensen, who has played for both Sweden and Denmark at youth national team level, joined the team from Spanish club Villarreal.

Jorgensen’s ball-playing skills caught Chelsea’s eye.

He joined the La Liga team in 2017 and will make his debut for the Yellow Submarine’s first team in December 2021.

It took until the 2022/23 season for him to make his league debut, playing two games during the season.

And last season he established himself as the club’s number one between the posts, appearing in 36 of 38 La Liga games.

He only signed a new contract at the Estadio de la Ceramica in June, but he immediately seized the opportunity to play in the Premier League.

Jorgensen could make his debut for Chelsea in America and is expected to be in the squad for the match against Manchester City on the opening day of the new season on August 18.
