Gareth Taylor, head coach of Manchester City, thought that his team was “second in many things” in the 2-1 victory on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur in the Super League of women (WSL).
Despite a lackluster representation from City, a brilliant strike by Aoba Fujino was sufficient to save the three points in London. The city still leaves the city at a touching distance between WSL Top three or two points behind Arsenal in the last of the Champions League places.
“It was a very difficult game for us,” said head coach Taylor.
“We always came back from the international break and adjusted ourselves very quickly and achieved a very, very good performance. I think we were second in many things today, secondly in the duels in the first half. We suffered a lot of pressure from Spurs.”
In the defensive department, injuries saw the city in the city thinly when captain Alex Greenwood was still stored after a knee surgery. The acquisition in January, Rebecca Knaak, is also out of action after he suffered a thigh injury during the international break with Germany.
“It is the defense that we really have to fight with. Laia Aleixandri plays twice for Spain, come back, and I would like to get it out of the field, but that’s just not. That’s the difficult thing.
“There was never a game that happened for us today, where we would not make a substitution because we try to protect the cargo. We have a lot of injuries, we have a small squad. As I say, it was a luxury of having Jill, [Roord] and Mary [Fowler] On the bench today. “
A controversial release from Ashleigh Neville recorded a potential goal from the city. Taylor admitted: “I couldn’t see where I was, but the girls seemed to be quite convinced [that it was a goal]. “
The decision not to forgive the familiar question about whether the WSL has to implement the finish line technology or not what has been the standard in the Premier League since 2013.
“There are many things that I would like to see in a women’s game that we have to improve, and that is obviously important,” said Taylor.
“I think more of the pitch, on the pitch. There are a lot of things we have to improve and we will come there. I think it’s just about lifting and pushing it and trying to get these things.”
