The launch of hummel’s new Greenland home kit caused such a stir that the striking red kit, heavily influenced by the island nation’s heritage, quickly sold out.
Another edition is in production, but now there’s also a stunning away kit, created from the landscape and harsh environment it’s meant to represent.
The ice blue shirt is inspired by the Greenland ice sheet, which covers 80% of the land mass and is the second largest ice mass in the world – only behind that in Antarctica.
The enduring strength of the ice is a key theme of the launch, coupled with the unbreakable strength that defines the Greenlandic national spirit.
“It is part of who we are as a people: steadfast, resilient and with a heart deeply rooted in our land and our cultural heritage,” said Kenneth Kleist, chairman of the Greenland Football Association (KAK).
“The new away kit captures this strength and unity and is a reminder of the pride we carry both as individuals and as a team. Whether it is the roar of the crowd in the stadium or the silence of the glaciers, our pride remains unbreakable.” “
Greenland itself, its heritage and values played a huge role in the creation of hummel’s home kit, and this attention to detail has also flowed into the development of a remarkable away kit. The design is influenced by intricate natural patterns formed by ice, with textured graphics that celebrate the power of ice and details on the sleeves that pay homage to traditional Greenlandic clothing.
“The ice sheet is a reminder of the strength and patience it takes to survive in one of the harshest environments in the world,” explained Morten Lund, marketing director at hummel.
“Our goal was to capture this story in a design that would resonate with both the crew and the people of Greenland. It is a symbol of unity – both with each other and with the country that shapes it, and we hope the players will wear it proudly.”
