Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has confirmed he will not be leaving the club in January transfer Window that says the Premier League leaders are “his club”.
The 21-year-old replaced the injured Curtis Jones at half-time of Liverpool’s Champions League game against Lille on Wednesday, with the Reds leading 1-0 thanks to Mohamed Salah’s 22nd goal of the season.
Jonathan David, one of Europe’s top goalscorers and a regular in the transfer gossip columns, leveled the score despite Lille being reduced to ten players, but Elliott was there to ensure Liverpool’s seventh consecutive Champions League win qualified for the knockout rounds of the reformatted competition.
Elliott’s future was called into question earlier this month due to reported interest from Brighton & Hove Albion and Borussia Dortmund, but he played down talk that he might leave Anfield ahead of Wednesday’s game, despite being in Arne Slot’s squad on Wednesday on the edge.
And after his game-winning contribution, Elliott reiterated his stance and confirmed he will not be leaving Liverpool any time soon.
“I think it’s pretty clear to be honest… I’m not going. I said it in an interview the other day, this is my team,” Elliott said Amazon Prime. “This is my club, I’m a big fan and we’re in a great position this season. Without saying anything on social media… I haven’t really seen everything, but it’s just a few things my friends have said to me and called me left, right and center asking if I was here or go here.
“That always happens in January, especially when I’ve been out for a long time and haven’t played as much as I’d like. But that’s football.”
Elliott then revealed that one of his childhood dreams was to score the winning goal for Liverpool on a Champions League night at Anfield, and explained how grateful he was to have the opportunity to play for the club he has been with since his childhood childhood supported.
“It’s hard to put it into words. All my life I have dreamed of playing Champions League football. Not just for my childhood club, but also playing here at Anfield in front of our fans and scoring points,” he said.
“It’s a tricky moment. My family is also in the stands. It’s an incredible feeling, but now it’s over. I just need to focus on the next few games, go to training tomorrow and make sure I do my best to function again.
“To be able to play in this team not only with great players, but also with great people, a great coaching staff and a great manager behind you. I feel like we are best positioned to achieve great things together.”
